Farm Animals Theme - Day 2 - Thematic Learning

~Medha is 3 years 1 month old~

We are on Day 2 FARM ANIMALS theme which is our second theme to learn more about Farm Animals. Yesterday we mostly spent time in reading books about Farm Animals and doing some coloring etc.

Here is what we did?

We first started with Sensory Tub for Farm Theme.

Farm Sensory Tub

Firstly, sorry that I couldn't take pictures for each and every step today, but I managed few. It was the trip to gather these items. In the end the effort was well worth it because the sensory tub was a hit . Do not miss the post on Sensory Play and It's benifits.

  • Gather your materials. We used rice, Sometimes I have the sensory tubs ready to go all pretty and presented and sometimes I have Medha's help. Fist we gathered all the animals that belong on a farm from our playroom. This is a great basic sorting lesson for kids too.

  • Next we poured our filling in.
  • And then we added animals, fake trees , and scooping related stuff.
  • Play! At first her play consisted of recognizing animals and pretending as such animal by making its sounds.

  • She fed RICE to hen in a cup, and arranged one more cup for Horse to feed HAY.
  • Fine motor skills were next. She scooped rice into cups and also sorted items as per color.

We had some nice fun for 2 hours. We enjoyed doing it. After some time medha started writing letters in the rice. Wish I would've at least one tractor at home to include in the tub.

Sheep Craft 1

We made some extremely cute sheep that I had found via Pinterest.

Materials

  • Paper plate or card board round shape
  • cotton balls or plain cotton
  • Glue
  • Black construction paper
  • Googly Eyes
  • Ribbon of any color

How to do?

Update : Steps are elaborated as those were not very clear. Thanks Rashmi and Priyadarsini for shout out.
  • First free draw head of sheep and legs. If you have older kid, you can make them draw. For us, I drew on black construction paper. For legs I just chose rectangular shape and head I drew as follows. Either you can print this image or draw the following shape on a black paper and cut that shape.

  • Similarly for legs, draw the following shape on a black construction paper and cut it. Either print and color with black paint or draw similar shape on black construction paper and cut.
  • Now first glue the head in such a way that the straight line template is glued to back of the paper plate. so only ear and half circle shape are visible in front view.
  • Similarly glue both legs on the other side in diagonal angle direction.
  • I asked medha to glue this head and legs in appropriate place. By now, your craft should be like this. Round paper plate with glued 2 legs and head with one ear visible.  I made this with MS Paint, Please bare with me, if it's not neat.

  • And then Medha glued the cotton balls on the paper plate fully so that plate is not visible.
  • And glue one Googly eye also on the head template as shown below. She made two with small and big paper plates.
  • After she completed, I stitched ribbon near to end of head template with the help of needle.

Sheep Craft 2

We made some another variation of sheep craft

Materials

  • cotton balls or plain cotton
  • Glue
  • Black construction paper
  • Googly Eyes

How to do?

    • We traced both of our hands on black construction paper.
    • Then I cut the hand shapes from that (Medha is not yet good in cutting shapes, she is able to do only straight cutting)
    • Glue cotton balls on the hands
    • Stick the googly eyes.
That's it. Very simple. Here is our final one.

    Books

We read Hic again today and we read some Pancha tantra stories related to animals.
