Learning Letters Game

~Medha is 33.5 months old~

The people who was reading my blog from beginning already knows that Medha had learned all the alphabets and numbers mostly by playing matching games. Here is another variety of matching letters.

To play this matching game, you'll need:

  • Post-it notes
  • An ABC poster or floor mat (We used our foam floor mat, but a poster on the Wall would work as well)

How to Play?

  1. Before playing, write the one letter on each of the sticky notes.

  2. Medha had placed her foam puzzle mats and placed them all on the floor (she didn't follow order of alphabets, which is ok still)

  3. Hand your child a letter and have them name the letter. Then, have them run over to the mat and find the letter that it matches.

  4. Also if your child is just starting with letters, you will want to pick just a few and work on at a time. This is when playing with the mat comes in handy because you can pull out the ones you want. Here is the final one once she completed doing for all the letters.

Watch the video to see how we have done this activity. Non-Telugu friends, please excuse me if you don't understand what we are talking in the video. :) Apologies as video is not so clear. Medha doesn't allow me to take video hence I kept my mobile somewhere nearby on the floor to record the activity.

Variations

  • You can also try same activity to teach lower case letters. See the picture to get better idea.
  • As your child gets better at matching up the letters, you can time them to see how fast they can go and then see if they can beat that time. Two kids could also race each other or race the clock if you worry about competition.

This has become a favorite game in our house, and Medha often requests me to put her post-its on the ABC mat.
