Book Review : What Makes a Rainbow?

~Medha is 32.5 months old~

I received this book from Devaki, as part of Little Reader's Nook November kit. This book is also called as MAGIC RIBBON BOOK. I must thank her for this beautiful book as part of kit. Medha loves this book and calls this as Color Ribbon Book. :)

Title : What Makes a Rainbow?
Author : Betty Ann Schwartz
Publisher : Piggy Toes Press
No. of Pages : 14

Story?

After the rainfall, mama rabbit informs little rabbit that they should soon see a rainbow. The inquisitive little rabbit asks his mother what makes a rainbow. She says him to find out the answer from his friends. As little Rabbit asks his friends(insects and animal) in the forest, each one tells him a different color based on their own color. Each bright and vivid page highlights a different color of the rainbow. Our favorite part is that it is a "magic ribbon book." As you turn each page another color of the rainbow magically appears and on the final pages you get to see a complete ribbon rainbow.

What young children will like?

  • Colors in each page.
  • Super cute colored ribbons on each page that add up to a rainbow at the end of the book.
  • As the child turns each page, a ribbon stretches across the two pages.
  • The repetition of the bunny asking the same question to the different characters, and the opportunity for children to say which colors they they think will make a rainbow.

Medha liked it ?

  • Medha loves Pop-up books and flip-flap books. So this became her favorite book.
  • She enjoys seeing the different colored ribbons that appear with the turn of each page and finally the pop up rainbow.
  • The tough part with Medha while reading this book is - " I already told her that a rainbow will have 7 colors and their names. But this book talks about only 6. And in the last page, it's mentioned that Sun, 6 Colors makes a rainbow. She always questions me that why did they have written only 6 colors makes rainbow? Where is the seventh one? " - I am not sure what to answer.

    My Rating

It's a great book to teach how each animal is unique and basic colors to toddlers and preschoolers.

    5/5
