Learning Letters Game

~Medha is 33.5 months old~

The people who was reading my blog from beginning already knows that Medha had learned all the alphabets and numbers mostly by playing matching games. Here is another variety of matching letters. 

To play this matching game, you'll need:

• Post-it notes
• An ABC poster or floor mat (We used our foam floor mat, but a poster on the Wall would work as well)

Jabbing beads in playdough

Lacing beads is a fun activity but Medha is bored of that hence I thought of combining beads with play dough which is also a fun activity. I and Medha did something similar when she was 1.5 years old. But later we didn't try this again so I decided to go with this activity day before yesterday.

Jabbing the beads into the play dough is a great sensory activity, and kids can make some pretty interesting creations this way.  In this activity children press the beads into a shallow play dough tray.  You can also try buttons or Straws or mini blocks or any thing small.

I showed jabbing one bead on the flatten play dough then she loved the idea and asked to handover all the beads.

Letter Recognition Activity

Medha is able to recognize all the letters before she turns 2 year old. But I wanted to increase her confidence in identifying each letter hence I thought of this activity.

We, I and Medha, have been having fun playing letter matching game last week. I printed out the letters of alphabets A-Z as small square tiles and we played some matching games with these alphabet prints and magnetic alphabets. They've kept Medha happily occupied for hours. I have downloaded the alphabet tiles as a PDF from OnePerfectDay blog.

I began by cutting the letters into individual squares. I then kept these into a zip lock bag and handed over to Medha.

Popsicle Sticks (Ice Cream Sticks) Craft

Today, Medha is very moody and doesn't want to play with Jigsaw puzzles like she does every day. And then I offered painting activity. She turned to be OK but not so excited to do this activity.

Then I remember the post I read from MessForLess and decided to introduce Medha too for an activity using Popsicle Sticks or Ice cream Sticks, but the simpler one.

Supplies we need for this activity:

• Popsicle Sticks
• Any Color
• Paint Brush

Exploring Alphabets - Letter "E"

I have explored various sites to find out various approaches others use to teach alphabets to Toddlers and Preschoolers. 

This is what I have summarized from various sites on how to Teach the Alphabet to Preschoolers:

• Read, read, and read. Read nursery rhymes, rhyming books, picture books and chapter books. Just READ.
• Notice print in the world around you. Call attention to exit signs, the toothpaste tube, and the Cheerios box.
• Explore the alphabet, letter by letter. 
• Keep it fun.

Do you know how to teach Alphabets to Kids

I have come across an interesting post about how to teach alphabets to Kids. Hence adding this info to my blog.

Most children are taught to write the alphabet in chronological order, ABC…etc. But try this different approach. Progress from the simplest to the most complex characters. I hope you find this method of teaching profitable.

This order is recommended by handwriting for kids because it progresses from easy to hard in terms of letter formation.
