Kitchen Tongs

Today, at first I asked Medha to sort out all magnenic alphabets we have at home color wise. She sorted out all the letters twice. When her interest started to wane, I added something that I guessed she would love and that would practice Fine Motor Skills and Hand-Eye Coordination. (Actually I need to think/find out some activity to teach her alphabets in the order, she is able to recognize each and every letter individually before her second birthday itself. But I am not finding better fun activity to do this.)

Book Review: The Snow King's daughter

I have bought "The Snow King's daughter" story book in the last week for Medha along with The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Here is my review on this book.

Animals Peel and Stick Foam Stickers

I have bought some Foam Animals Peel And Stick stickers for Medha. The vendor suggested me to use these to create your own jungle or your own Garden or Pet Store on a paper by sticking these.

And I have bought this full bunch for INR 120/- and it has more than 150 stickers in the packet. I mainly took this because Medha is so interested in Stickers, I thought of adding some learning to these stickers in the form of teaching her animals and colors and where these animals stay. (Farm Animals, Jungle Animals, Creepers like Snakes, Caterpillars etc.)

Insightful conversations

With my delightful daughter Medha conversations which amaze me, make me laugh, make me think and errr...make me want to bang my head against a brick wall sometimes.

Conversation 1

Medha and I have stopped at a traffic light while travelling in an auto. Medha is chattering a mile a minute. A beggar woman comes to my side of the auto, her palm containing a few coins, stretched beseechingly. I shake my head saying 'no'. Medha watches wide-eyed as she waits and walks away.
Medha: Amma, amma, why did'nt you take the money she was giving you??
Me: ????????
How many of us have ever thought of something like that? Out of the box, isnt it? ;)

Book Review : The Very Hungry Caterpillar

I have bought "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" story book in the last week for Medha. Here is my review on this book.

Author : Eric Carle
Publisher : Puffin Bks

Popsicle Sticks (Ice Cream Sticks) Craft

Today, Medha is very moody and doesn't want to play with Jigsaw puzzles like she does every day. And then I offered painting activity. She turned to be OK but not so excited to do this activity.

Then I remember the post I read from MessForLess and decided to introduce Medha too for an activity using Popsicle Sticks or Ice cream Sticks, but the simpler one.

Supplies we need for this activity:
  • Popsicle Sticks
  • Any Color
  • Paint Brush

Exploring Alphabets - Letter "E"

I have explored various sites to find out various approaches others use to teach alphabets to Toddlers and Preschoolers.

This is what I have summarized from various sites on how to Teach the Alphabet to Preschoolers:

  • Read, read, and read. Read nursery rhymes, rhyming books, picture books and chapter books. Just READ.
  • Notice print in the world around you. Call attention to exit signs, the toothpaste tube, and the Cheerios box.
  • Explore the alphabet, letter by letter.
  • Keep it fun.

Do you know how to teach Alphabets to Kids

I have come across an interesting post about how to teach alphabets to Kids. Hence adding this info to my blog.

Most children are taught to write the alphabet in chronological order, ABC…etc. But try this different approach. Progress from the simplest to the most complex characters. I hope you find this method of teaching profitable.

This order is recommended by handwriting for kids because it progresses from easy to hard in terms of letter formation.

Book Review : The Book of Fun for Children - Volume 1

One of my good old friend insisted me on purchasing "The Book of Fun for Children" from Viva Publications for Medha. I was keep on postponing the purchase as I somehow felt that it won't help Medha much as she is only 2.5 years old and whereas her son is 4.5 years old.  But as she was keep on asking me about my experience with that book, I bought the book online from Skoolshop instead from Viva site as some offer was going on in Skoolshop.

Rhymes : Five little monkeys

Kids love this popular rhyme and really enjoy this super simple song. "Five Little Monkeys" is a rhyme we can use any time children need to get up and be active. Children (atleast Medha) love this simple rhyme, and it's great for introducing the expression, "No more _____!" (language that can come in quite handy for us parents :) ).

And also this Rhyme can be used to learn children counting and can tell the children that they have to be careful when they are jumping in the bed. Otherwise, they can bump their heads. And that hurts......

Tip: Count on your fingers while singing this rhyme.

Medha loves to jump on the floor while hearing this rhyme. And also she would like to repeat "Doctor said, No more monkeys jumping on the bed"

Post in your views how your kid enjoyed listening this.
