Why Ghee For Toddlers Is A MUST

I guess every parent in the world is worried about giving their child the right nutrition. Their toddler's diet must be complete in nutrients and have a balance of everything. They are also concerned about their toddler's growth and thus try to give the most nutritious foods. When it comes to the question of giving ghee to toddlers, people have divided opinions.

While some say that ghee for toddlers is a must because it gives them a dose of nutrients for growth and developments. There are also some people who believe that giving too much ghee to toddlers could make them fat and unfit. But as far as Indian mothers are concerned, they are believers in the first school of thought.

An excess of anything is bad for the health and so is the case with ghee. But as your toddler's diet is concerned, ghee is an important Indian baby food that needs to be included. Here are some reasons why ghee for toddlers is a must.

Reasons Your Toddler Needs Ghee :

  • Your toddler needs up to 1500 calories in a day. This increases substantially if you have a very active toddler who not only walks but also runs. Feeding ghee to your toddler is the easiest way to make sure that there is no calorie deficit.
  • 30 to 35 percent of the calories that your baby requires must come from fats daily. Now your toddler's diet obviously doesn't contain any oily food. You child may still be on formula food. But ghee added to rice or roti's can make up the 30 percent of fats that your toddler requires every day.
  • After you stop breastfeeding, your toddler usually starts losing weight. This is because toddler's do not get the regular dose of fats from breast milk anymore. So introducing ghee in your toddler's diet may be a great way to maintain their fluffy baby weight.
  • Apart from food, ghee has other uses for your toddler. Ghee warmed with garlic is a very good home remedy for cold and cough. Massage warm ghee on your toddler's chest to get rid of congestion. Toddlers should not be given very strong medications. That is why this home remedy using ghee is extremely beneficial.
Although ghee for toddlers is a healthy source of fats, do not overfeed them. Too much ghee from a young age can make your child obese. Ghee is 97 percent fat. So give your toddler about 2tsp or 3tsp of ghee everyday; never more than that.

And also my pediatrician always suggests to use Butter instead of Ghee for kids as ghee is prepared by cooking butter until the water and milk solids are removed. Unless child is sensitive to Dairy items, he always prefer Butter to toddlers and preschoolers. So I use both of Medha depending upon availability.
